CONSERVATORY ROOF REPLACEMENT
Conservatory roof replacement in Sittingbourne
Sittingbourne, Faversham and the wider Swale district have seen steady housing growth since the 1980s, and many of those homes came with conservatories. The appeal was obvious at the time: extra space at relatively low cost. The problem, twenty or thirty years on, is that the original roof was never designed to make the room genuinely comfortable.
Why the original roof no longer works
A polycarbonate conservatory roof is essentially a single layer of lightweight plastic. It lets light in, but it also lets heat in — and out. In summer the room overheats. In winter the heat you put into the room escapes through the roof almost as fast as the radiator can produce it. When it rains heavily, the noise on the panels can be intrusive enough to make the room impractical.
The practical result is a room that sits empty for much of the year. That is wasted space in a home where every square foot has value.
What a tiled roof replacement does
We remove the old roof and replace it with a lightweight, insulated, tiled roof that is built to measure for your conservatory. The insulation board within the roof structure reduces heat transfer, so the room stays closer to a comfortable temperature without heavy reliance on heating or cooling. The tiles give the conservatory the appearance of a permanent part of the house, and the plastered internal ceiling finishes the room to the same standard as any other room in your home.
The existing walls, base, windows and doors remain in place. You are not demolishing and rebuilding — you are upgrading the weakest element of the structure.
Structural and compliance checks
We inspect every conservatory before recommending work. The existing base, walls and frame must be suitable for the new roof, and we confirm this during the survey. We also establish whether Building Regulations approval is required and which route applies. As a CERTASS Certified Installer (registration 12-1432), we can self-certify qualifying work, which is simpler and typically faster than a local authority application.
