CONSERVATORY ROOF REPLACEMENT

Conservatory roof replacement in Gravesend

Gravesend and the wider Gravesham area have a good stock of conservatories on homes from the 1980s through to the 2000s. If yours still has the original polycarbonate or basic glass roof, you are probably familiar with the pattern: uncomfortably warm in summer, cold enough to need a heater in winter, and loud enough in a downpour to interrupt a phone call.

Hipped tiled conservatory roof replacement giving a traditional appearance on existing frames

A lightweight tiled conservatory roof replacement solves these problems without the expense or upheaval of rebuilding the entire structure.

What the work involves

We remove the old roof covering, build a new insulated roof structure onto the existing conservatory frame, weatherproof it, tile it externally and finish the interior with a plastered ceiling. The walls, base, windows and doors are left in place. The result is a room that holds a comfortable temperature, blocks rain noise and looks like a natural extension of the house.

How a tiled roof improves the room

The insulated roof build-up does most of the work. Unlike a single-skin polycarbonate panel, the tiled roof system includes layers of insulation board that slow heat transfer in both directions. The room stays cooler when the sun is on it and retains warmth more effectively when it is cold outside. You are unlikely to eliminate the need for heating altogether — that depends on the room's glazing, orientation and how you use it — but most homeowners tell us the difference is significant.

The plastered ceiling changes the feel of the room more than most people expect. Exposed glazing bars and translucent panels give the impression of sitting under a temporary structure. A solid, finished ceiling makes it feel like an integral part of the house.
